What Makes Money20/20 Different?
Bryony explains that Money20/20 Europe brings together the entire financial services ecosystem under one roof, creating an environment where networking, innovation and industry insight converge. While payments and banking remain at its core, the event continually adapts to reflect the latest developments across fintech.
Each edition is shaped by the issues transforming the sector, with themes evolving rapidly as technologies and market priorities change. This year’s event highlighted the growing convergence of traditional finance (TradFi) and decentralised finance (DeFi), alongside the continued evolution of AI and digital payments.
The Industry Shifts Driving This Year’s Event
Reflecting on the 2025 edition, Bryony describes a noticeable shift from experimentation to implementation across the industry. Rather than discussing emerging technologies in theory, businesses were focused on deploying real-world solutions.
Key themes included:
- The convergence of TradFi and DeFi
- AI moving into practical implementation
- European financial sovereignty and regulation
- The evolution of financial ecosystems through re-bundling
She also discusses several significant product launches and strategic announcements that took place during the event, reinforcing Money20/20’s reputation as a platform where major industry news is unveiled.
Building the Agenda
Planning for the next event begins almost immediately after the current one ends.
Bryony explains that the content team conducts more than 100 research conversations with industry leaders each summer to identify emerging trends before building the conference programme. These conversations help shape the event’s key themes and ensure the agenda remains closely aligned with the industry’s priorities.
Creating Fresh Experiences Every Year
Keeping the event fresh is one of the team’s biggest challenges.
One of the standout additions this year was The Intersection, a dedicated stage exploring the relationship between traditional and decentralised finance. The stage also hosted the launch of The Intersection of Money, a book examining how the two financial worlds are increasingly working together.
Bryony says Money20/20 is always looking for new formats and experiences that reflect the industry’s changing landscape while giving delegates reasons to return each year.
Designing an Event Around Connections
While the speaker programme is a major attraction, Bryony believes the real value of Money20/20 lies in the connections delegates make throughout the event.
The team carefully designs the venue layout, networking spaces and digital tools to maximise opportunities for meetings and conversations. Whether through the event app, Connections Lounge or informal encounters around the venue, every aspect is intended to help attendees generate meaningful business opportunities.
Planning Never Stops
Although Money20/20 Europe takes place each June, planning is a continuous process.
With events also taking place across the Middle East, the USA and Asia, the team is constantly preparing for the next edition somewhere in the world. Bryony explains that every event has its own identity while remaining connected through the wider Money20/20 brand.
The Challenges Behind the Scenes
One of the biggest challenges is ensuring the event evolves as quickly as the fintech industry itself.
Bryony also reveals the scale of the team involved in delivering the experience, including a dedicated creative team responsible for designing the attendee journey. She explains how changes to the exhibition layout, venue flow and interactive features have all been carefully developed to encourage exploration and increase engagement.
Looking Ahead
Looking towards future editions, Bryony says growing the banking audience is a key priority.
The introduction of Smart Meet, a structured buyer and seller matchmaking programme, represents one way the team is strengthening connections between banks and solution providers. She also highlights increasing participation from Africa and Central and Eastern Europe as evidence of Money20/20 Europe’s expanding reach across the continent.
